Jasmine Francis
Jasmine is the main character of the film Blue Jasmine, though she does not have the features of a typical protagonist or dynamic character. Jasmine does not grow much through the film - rather, she continues to struggle with the flaws and bad experiences in her life, and her problems continue to affect other people.
Jasmine's husband Hal, a money manager, was arrested to fraud regarding embezzlement of funds from his clients. It is revealed in the end of the film that Jasmine is the one that turned Hal in to the FBI after she discovers he wants to have an affair with a 19-year-old girl.
Ginger, Jasmine's long-time friend and sister, is forced to take her in when Jasmine arrives in San Francisco from New York City. Jasmine critiques Ginger's romantic choices, and Ginger's husband, Augie, was one of the clients affected by her husband Hal.
Throughout the film, Jasmine flirts with several men, and eventually becomes engaged to Dwight Westlake. Her knack for telling lies, however, gets her in trouble when Augie tells Dwight that Jasmine's husband was arrested, and not a deceased surgeon as Jasmine had claimed.
Ginger
Ginger is Jasmine's sister and is the one most sympathetic to her interests for the majority of the film. Though Jasmine makes fun of Ginger's boyfriend Chili (whom she was dating while she was married to Augie), and says that he is beneath her. Ginger is often irritated with Jasmine, such as when she took a first-class flight to San Francisco despite the fact that she was in debt, but often forgives her.
Hal Francis
Hal was Jasmine's husband, and was arrested for mismanaging funds as a money manager. He was taken into custody and placed in prison, where he committed suicide. Jasmine tries to hide the facts about Hal's crimes from others throughout the film.
Dwight Westlake
Jasmine is introduced to the wealthy Dwight Westlake, who is unmarried after his wife passed away. He has ambitions of being a congressman, and works as a diplomat. Jasmine, wanting some adventure in her life, pursues Danny by lying about being an interior designer. Danny invites Jasmine to his home, and is impressed with Jasmine's skills. He eventually becomes enamored with Jasmine, and the two get engaged. Their love falls apart when Augie, Ginger's husband, reveals the truth about Jasmine's past to him.
