    Objective:

    Students will research the history of feminism in late 20th-century Western culture (especially Britain), evaluate the related social and cultural ideals surrounding romance and domesticity, make connections between their findings and the novel, and discuss how these social and cultural ideals have shifted since the novel's publication.
