Fanny Brawne is a passionate young lady with an interest in fashion. One day she is introduced by an up and coming poet John Keats through the mutual acquaintance of the Dilke family and Keats’s good friend Charles Brown. Fanny is immediately stricken by Keats, while he is more reserved in their communication. Her interest grows even further upon acquiring his poetry collection.
Keats finally opens up to the communication while they share mutual grief for his brother. He starts giving Fanny poetry lessons, but is still a bit reserved because of his scarce financial situation. Brown decides to jokingly send romantic letters to Fanny, creating tension and mistrust between her and Keats.
Nevertheless, they resume their relationship, become engaged and have to split for some period of time because of Keats’s money and career pursuit.Keats suddenly falls ill and eventually ends up under the care of Brawne family. He garners poetic success and Fanny’s mother gives them blessings to marry.
After he recovers, Keats sets off to Italy, after which he intends to marry Fanny. Unfortunately, he falls ill and dies in Italy, and Fanny is left in mourning. At the end, she recites the poem on which the title of the movie is based while taking a walk on the path he walked as well.
