"Portrait in Georgia" Pastiche

Objective:
Students will analyze them poem and write a pastiche of it to demonstrate their knowledge of how it works.

Structure:
Begin this activity by discussing the poem "Portrait in Georgia." Be sure to touch on how the poem conflates two different images (that of a beautiful white woman and a lynched black man). Give students 10-15 minutes to write an imitation of the poem, in which they describe and conflate two other very different images.
