Empires

Big Daddy is building a textile factory in order to weave the cotton from his massive estate. He is building the factory in order that his empire, that he will endure beyond his lifetime. Ironically, Brick doesn't want any of "things" his father is giving him, he wants his love.

Life

Maggie tells Big Daddy and everyone in the family that she is pregnant at the end of the film. Ironically, she isn't pregnant but Brick confirms her lie to the family and makes love to her for the first time in years.

Gooper

Gooper could at any moment cut Brick and Maggie's lie down about them having a child on the way. Ironically, Gooper doesn't argue against his brother's lie, and chooses to believe him regardless of what his wife says.

Maggie the Cat

Maggie desires to inherit all of Big Daddy's estate and fortune as Brick is the one he desires to leave it to. Ironically, Big Daddy won't leave his wealth to them unless they have a child and Maggie cannot convince Brick to sleep with her let alone spend the night in bed with her.

Love

Big Daddy shows Brick an old suitcase, his father's inheritance to him. To him it was nothing; he inherited nothing and built an empire. Ironically, Brick shows his father that though he didn't leave him money, he left him love. And it's the one thing Brick desires from his father.
