Objective:

In this activity, students will begin working on a piece of creative nonfiction modeled after Zauner's memoir.

Structure:

Part 1:

First, students should choose a primary event from their lives that will be the focus of this personal essay. While Zauner's primary event was her mother's death, it does not have to be traumatic or negative at all - it can also be a moment of triumph from a performance, sports game, family interaction, etc. But it should be something special and not routine.
