A crime scene
It is "a very gloomy place" at the end of Stavrogin's huge park... The gloom is such that it is almost impossible to see each other two feet away... The table and the benches have long since "rotted and crumbled". Pyotr Stepanovich Verkhovensky "accurately and firmly" shoots Shatov at close range. They put a lantern, swing the corpse and throw it into the water. There is "a deaf and long sound". The image of the murder gives an awful impression and shows the true nature of the characters.
Nikolai Vsevolodovich Stavrogin
Nikolai is the focus of the novel “Demons". This character is "endowed with demonic beauty". He is always "well and gracefully dressed", but his behavior creates confusion regarding his correctness. His appearance in society causes "violent reactions". With the whole brightness of his appearance, Nikolai is quite modest and silent type. All the ladies of the world are "crazy about him". The image of this personage gives an impression of the rebel and libertine, who likes to be in the spotlight.
Fire
The fire on the other side of the river is the most distressing moment in the book. During the fire, the night is "as bright as day". In the nearest lanes from the burning street, "the fuss and overcrowding are exorbitant". "Sparks fly far away"; they are extinguished whenever it is possible. It is heard how "children are crying". The image of the fire gives an impression of the real grief and numerous losses.
