The Imagery of the Glass House (“Requiem for a Glass Heart”)
All the appliances in the ‘glass house’ are glass. Accordingly, nothing seems to be sturdy in the house considering that glass is at risk of splintering.
The Imagery of a Glass Wife (“Requiem for a Glass Heart”)
The wife’s body, including the interior organs, is made up of glass. The construction of the wife, both internally and externally, using glass accentuates her insubstantiality and the peril she faces as a result of immersing in the glassy life.
The Imagery of the Twin Brothers (“The Mark of Cain”)
Caleb and Jacob are indistinguishable; hence, outsiders would find it problematic to tell them apart. Their resemblance motivates them to perpetuate a triangle of deception that includes the narrator as they are assured that she would not distinguish them. However, the narrator makes a distinction between them based on how they treat and look at her.
