Today's set of poems demonstrate Donne's skill as a love poet. Simultaneously, these poems demonstrate some of Donne's characteristic "weirdness" and his use of intricate philosophical metaphor and imagery.
-“The Flea”
-“Valediction Forbidding Mourning”
-“Woman’s Constancy”
-“Love’s Progress”
-“The Canonization”
-“Go and catch a falling star”
For each poem, have students outline Donne's "argument" about love, and the most important metaphors Donne uses to make it.
