Day 4

John Donne: Poems Lesson Plan

Reading Assignment, Questions, Vocabulary

Today's poems dive into Donne's metaphysics on a large scale, examining some of his philosophical account of how the world is shaped.

-"Anatomy of the World"

-“This is my play’s last scene”

-A poem from Ben Jonson focusing on the social world, for comparison: "To Penshurst"

These poems can be spread over a few days for classes newer to poetry, or students can skim the poems and then report, in groups, on individual sections in more depth.
