The story begins with Thivai retelling a story of Abhor's childhood and how she was molested. Then Thivai talks about himself and how he came to dream of becoming a pirate. His narration is filled with stream of consciousness style and he jumps back and forth, from his dreams to reality, from his narration about killing his mother to getting into prison together with his father.
The main plot takes place in Paris which is under Algerian revolutionist occupation in a fictional future. Abhor and Thivai are in a relationship. Abhor is part robot, part black woman. Thivai is a suicidal nihilist. They are both terrorists who work underground, but Abhor decides to go on a killing rampage of their bosses.
Algerians take over Paris and Thivai ends up in prison. Out of prison, he gets raped and after awhile he reunites with Abhor. Thivai wants to become a pirate and they go to an abandoned ship together. Abhor keeps telling Thivai that she doesn't want to be a pirate. Angry, Thivai mails CIA her location so they capture this wanted terrorist. He then leaves her and reunites with his previous rapist whose name is Mike. In the meantime, Abhor is imprisoned and the two guys try to come up with a plan to help her escape.
In a ridiculous frenzy of contemplating Abhors escape they decide to teach her how to write and become a woman writer in prison. Senselessly, they cut her fingers and use her blood for writing. Then they write a letter to Algerian police in blood in which they reveal that Abhor will be set free.
After escaping prison, the three of them go back to the ship. Abhor decides that she wants to become a member of a motorcycle gang and steals a bike and leaves Thivai and Mark and goes on a wild motor-cycle ride. After a while, she is stopped by a police officer with Thivai and Mark following behind.
Mark is a part of a motorcycle gang and he tells her about horror-stories involving being a part of that. Abhor decides that she doesn't want to be a part of that after all.
Abhor doesn't really know what she wants to be, but she is hopeful because she knows what she hates and she hopes that the world will one day change and stop being only disgust.
