Father Christmas Symbols, Allegory and Motifs

Symbol of love

Father Christmas is a symbol of love. Throughout the book, Father Christmas does his delivery duties with much love and affection. Despite hiding his warm heart inside grumpy dissatisfying exterior clothing, he is a loving man living a normal life. Every person who interacts with Father Christmas feels love when he welcomes them humbly with affection.

The symbolism of companionship

The dog, cat, and two reindeer symbolize companionship. Father Christmas loves these pets because they give him company and do not fake their love for him. Therefore, Father Christmas knows the value of his pets and appreciates giving them presents on special days. For instance, during Christmas, he gives these pets gifts he receives from friends and family.

The bottle of brandy

The bottle of brandy Father Christmas receives from Fred symbolizes true friendship. Father Christmas disapproves of all the gifts he receives but only accepts the bottle of brandy from Fred. The acceptance of the gift is a great gesture of appreciation. Therefore, when Father Christmas sees the bottle of brandy, he quickly connects it to his friendship with Fred.
