Ferris Bueller's Day Off was released in 1986 by Paramount Pictures. The film was written and directed by John Hughes and stars Matthew Broderick with Alan Ruck, Mia Sara, Jeffrey Jones and Jennifer Gray. It was produced by Hughes and Tom Jacobson and edited by Paul Hirsch. The picture was made for a budget of $6,000,000 and grossed over $70,000,000 in worldwide box office.
The movie shows us a day in the life of Ferris Bueller as he plays hooky from school. Ferris enlists his girlfriend Sloane and best friend Cameron to come with him. Bueller's principal, Mr. Rooney and his sister Jeanie want him to be caught. Rooney so that Bueller will have to repeat his senior year and his sister because she hates that Ferris gets special treatment when she doesn't. The narrative follow Bueller as he has experiences throughout Chicago and ultimately makes it home in time to not be caught by his parents.
The film was created off an original script by Hughes, who was the creator behind such films as The Breakfast Club, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Home Alone, Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors and countless other classic films of the 1980's & 90s. Ferris Bueller's Day Off has gone on to become one of the quintessential comedy films of the 1980s and was critically as well as commercially successful.
