Objective:

Students will research significant wartime events that occurred on November 11, 1943.

Structure:

Although only one event is depicted in Flags of Our Fathers, November 11, 1943 was a significant day in World War II. Ironically, it also happens to be Armistice Day (known as Veterans' Day in the United States). For this activity, students will research and report on other events that took place outside of Iwo Jima.
