    Students will be able to understand Claudia's everyday life and the context in which the book was written

    Structure:

    By now students may have noticed substantial differences between their own lives and Claudia's. Ask them to look in the front of their books for the publication date, which is 1967. Konigsburg was writing about the time in which she was living; one can assume based on the book that Claudia's childhood is taking place in the 1960s.
