    Avenging Amy

    Kind of Activity:

    Individual Writing

    Objective:

    Students will be able to consider whether Amy is a villain, and what this may indicate about how Gone Girl represents women.

    Common Core Standards:

    CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.2, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.3, CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.9-10.1

    Structure:

    Encourage students to seek out articles in reaction to the novel's portrayal of Amy. Is she an anti-hero? A pure villain? Is her depiction offensive to women? There are a myriad of articles asking and answering these questions. Reading a selection of these will help to start a discourse about Amy's characterization.
