History of the Peloponnesian War is an historical recollection of the war between the Peloponnesian League and the Delian League, called the Peloponnesian War. It is also commonly known as a conflict between Athens and Sparta and their allies. The is about the 20 first years of the conflict. The text is written by the Athenian called Thucydides who was a general for Athens during the war.
Thucydides was one of the “fathers” of Western history, where chronology was used strictly through the book, marking dates and year. Another specific and special part that has made the book a historic artifact is the neutrality of the author. Even though he was an Athenian general, he was generally unbiased and was able to discuss and reflect upon the happenings during the war.
The book was written during the Peloponnesian War, which was from (431-404 BC). The last parts of the war were not collected, though Xenophon covered the last seven years of the war in his Hellenica, though it is unclear why Thucydides didn’t finish his own work. The part of the book that’s not historical, is the use the Greek mythology and Homer, which is fiction.
