Hollow City Characters

Hollow City Character List

Jacob

Jacob is the main protagonist of the novel and the only peculiar from the group whose look is in accordance to his age. He is from the present and the main reason he decided to join the peculiar children is Emma: he is in love with her. His power is still new to Jacob; he is still only learning about it and is overwhelmed when the children put all of their trust in him. It makes him afraid that he might become confident and therefore not careful which may lead to disaster. Jacob is still holding onto his old life in the form of his mobile phone. It is what makes him sane in all of the insanity. Jacob is also followed by the shadow of his grandfather. His grandfather had the similar powers and at Jacob's age was involved with Emma as well.

Emma

Emma is the leader of the peculiar group, a voice of confidence and encouragement when things seem to go downhill. The peculiar group is apprehensive of her decisions and she is always the one that breaks the ice. Emma is also in love with Jacob but reluctant because she doesn't want his life to be ruined. She is much older than she looks and her wisdom shows despite her youthful face, which is applicable to all of Miss Peregrine's peculiar children. In accordance to her powers Emma is passionate, easily overcome with anger when faced with injustice.

Miss Wren

Miss Wren as an actual character is introduced in the few final chapters but the idea of Miss Wren is present throughout the novel. She represents hope to the peculiar children; last hope in a world that is falling apart. Not only for the peculiar children, Miss Wren is a spark of hope for the whole world of peculiars. What's interesting is the authority that Miss Wren, and all of the ymbrynes, has over the peculiar children; they are like mother figures to them.

Bronwyn

Bronwyn is a girl with a tough outer shell but a warm heart. Bronwyn is more of a mother figure to the little children than Miss Peregrine. Besides being physically strong Bronwyn is also a moral character. She wanted to save Sam and Esme despite what everyone said and despite the two girls being a part of the past. When Miss Peregrine allegedly kills Miss Wren's pigeon Bronwyn is disgusted by the bird and doesn't even want to look at it.

Addison

Addison is a part of the menagerie-a group of peculiar animals. Addison is a talking dog. He has an English gentleman style of talking and stance. Addison helps the group find the way to London and at the end helps Jacob and Emma to hide from the wights.

Millard

Millard is an invisible boy who despite the positive things that come with his peculiarity appears to be longing to be seen and is often offended when his peculiarity is mentioned. Millard is also a sort of a book worm. He studies the Tales of Peculiar and leads the way to the loop in London. Millard is also the jokester of the group and according to his peculiarity has a role of a lookout.
