The 1996 Mount Everest disaster has been covered extensively in books and films. The Climb is Russian mountaineer Anatoli Boukreev's account of what happened on the mountain, and in part is written in response to some of the criticisms Krakauer leveled against him in Into Thin Air.

Books such as High Exposure by David Breashears, The Mountain by Ed Viseturs, and Dark Summit by Nick Heil are just a few of the numerous personal memoirs written about climbing Mount Everest, or high-level mountaineering in general.

The IMAX film Everest provides a filmed documentary of the disaster, and details the experience of a film crew climbing the mountain in the same time period as Hall's team....
