It's in His Kiss

It's in His Kiss Analysis

It’s in His Kiss follows the story of Gareth St. Clair as he attempts to spite his father and inherit the St. Clair estates. Though Gareth is titled, he has been disowned by his parents, making him somewhat of a social pariah. His obvious lack of wealth and his dowdy appearance contribute to the idea that he is not a true member of the peerage.

However, Hyacinth is able to see past all this superficiality and offers her help in locating his lost family heirlooms. Her trusting nature and eagerness to be part of an adventure highlight how innocent she truly is. Despite her belief that she knowledgeable and skillful is many things, she is clearly still very innocent as she does not realize that Gareth is using her and feeding her lies.

Nonetheless, it is evident that Gareth is not a bad man and his actions stem from desperation. He believes that inheriting his father’s land will not only be the best revenge for his mistreatment towards Gareth, but also a way to make him feel as though he is not an illegitimate son. It is evident that Gareth wants to belong to a society that shuns him through no fault of his own.
