In this humorous opening to the story "Shoes," the narrator introduces this unnamed male character, who is dancing while drinking. After, he balances the glass of wine on his forehead, and we learn that from his practicing he had created wine stains on the carpet.
"As might be expected, her wedding-night dreams were both weird and eventful, taking her in and out of countries that she didn't even know existed."
In the opening to "Dreams," the narrator describes how the protagonist had strange dreams on the night of her wedding. We learn that this included a dream about all her past lovers in wheelchairs, which is later revealed to have some significance. She tells her husband about this dream, however, he doesn't believe it is important.
