Jerusalem Metaphors and Similes

Forest

Johnny being evicted from the forest in order for homes to be built is a metaphor for how nature is being destroyed at any cost in order to 'advance'.

Safety

Johnny allows kids to party with him, even Phaedra to stay with him in his caravan. This is a metaphor for how messed up family life is today, that kids feel safer in the care of a man who is constantly drunk and high and deals drugs.

Professor

The Professor lives in a state of fantasy and reality intermixed. His character is a metaphor for how pain from loss can cause one to exit from living in the reality of the world.

Queen

Phaedra being terrified that she will no longer be the Queen of the fair is a metaphor for the social pressures that young kids are having to deal with in regards to identity at such an early age.

Australia

Lee has purchased a one-way ticket to Australia in order to go on a vision quest. This is a metaphor for the importance of getting outside of ones comfort zone to experience life anew in order to find who you truly are.
