Students will discuss Hughes's views on America and will artistically represent their own views.

Structure:
In "Let America Be America Again," and "I, Too," the speaker discusses America: its problems, its myths, and its promises. In class-wide discussion, have students describe the America they see depicted in Hughes's work. The teacher should stand by the board and white the students responses as they give them.
