Slaughterhouse; butcher shop.

facile

Superficial; shallow and trite.

fetid

In a rotten state; putrid, decaying and foul.

hysterical

An elevated sense of agitated excitement, often stimulated by fright or anxiety.

complement

A supplement; accompanied by; partnered with.

peculiar

Strange and unusual; weird and atypical.

peregrine

Foreign and outlandish.

interrogation

Questioning someone in a manner consistent with a cross-examination in a courtroom.

dainty

Fragile and exquisite; delicate and elegant.

jaunty

Carefree and lively with just a touch of cockiness.

menagerie

A collection of animals.

withered

Wasting away; skeletal; sickly and close to death.

immortal

Incapable of dying; god-like; eternal.

infiltrate

To penetrate secretly; to insinuate.

persecute

To single out for punishment.

quickening

Hurrying; rushing; speeding up; hastening an arrival.

iconic

The model or ultimate personification of an entity.

Ymbrynes

Ymbrynes are peculiars that are able to manipulate time and change into birds.

Loop

A loop is a day that a ymbryne chooses to repeat endlessly to protect child peculiar. Only peculiars are able to enter loops, and they do not age in the loop.

Hollowgast

A hollowgasts are ex-peculiars who like to feed off of peculiars. They are invisible to almost every peculiar. Jacob Portman is one of the peculiars who can see hollowgasts.

Wights

A wight is a hollowgast who has eaten enough peculiars to regain their human form. They look exactly like normal people except that their eyes are white.

Monster

Hollowgasts are commonly referred to as monsters since they act like them.

Envoy

An envoy is a glimpse of something.

Squelch

A squelch is a soft sucking sound.

Succession

Succession means following a previous event.

Carom

Carom means bounce or rebound.
