    What if Pi's fellow castaway were a different animal?

    CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.9-10.2

    Structure:

    Pi says that an undignified animal might have been "more trying companionship" on the lifeboat. Read this paragraph aloud as a class and discuss why Pi might feel this way. Ask students if they think this is a realistic attitude for the character to have, and if they think it is line with what they already know about Pi. You may want to address what this belief says about Pi's character and connect this to his tendency to prioritize "the better story" over all else. Discuss...
