Objective:

Students will identify the stylistic elements in a piece of writing and attempt to emulate them in their own piece.

Common Core Standards:

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.7.2

Structure:

Divide the class into groups of four or five. Have students skim over the Pickwick Portfolio in Chapter 10. They should note how many pieces there are, how long those pieces are, and what sort of writing each piece covers. Students should notice that a variety of writing styles are found in the March girls' paper, including informational articles and poems.
