How has Jo and Laurie's relationship begun to evolve at this point in the novel?
Alcott creates a special relationship between Jo and Laurie almost from the moment he is introduced. In fact, their relationship is one of the most memorable parts of Little Women. As such, students will likely have picked up on Laurie's budding feelings toward Jo. However, these are the first moments when anything overtly romantic takes place between the two.
