While students might not be familiar with the conventions of Romanticism, this can serve as an opportunity to explore what in this poem might more generally apply to artwork of the Romantic period. For instance, Childe Harold's facing heartbreak or discontent through encounters with nature, his volatility which reflects his inner psyche, and his status as a love-lorn wanderer echo the subjects of many Romantic works in the early-19th century.
