Byron's work forms a significant part of the canon for English Romantic poetry. Others in this school include Byron's close friend Percy Shelley, his wife Mary Shelley, and John Keats.
In Don Juan and The Vision of Judgement, Byron expresses open disdain for the lake poets, particularly Robert Southey. Students might look at texts by Southey and fellow lake poet Wordsworth, for whom Byron showed less open contempt.
