    What do you think Simon means when he says, “‘What else is there to do?’” (Ch 9)?

    Simon’s trek away from the Lord of the Flies is characterized by such words as “drearily,” “glum” and “weariness.” Clearly, he seems like a hopeless figure, which may very well be the case. He understands that the Lord of the Flies is correct; in the previous chapter, during Simon’s hallucination, the Lord of the Flies says that the beast lives inside the boys. Simon recognizes and accepts this immutable fact.
