About the Author

William Golding (1911-1993) was born in St. Columb Minor, Cornwall, UK, on September 19, 1911. Throughout his entire life, he wrote a number of novels of various degrees of success, in addition to essays, a play, and poetry. Golding was also the recipient of notable literature prizes, including the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1983. He died in Cornwall of heart failure on June 19, 1993, and one novel by Golding was published posthumously.
