Imagery of Hearing
The author has used the terms “screaming and flopping” to appeal the sense of hearing to the reader. For instance, he writes:
“There was a lot of screaming and flopping around and trying to tear my shirt into pieces to stem the bleeding.”
The imagery of hearing in this context also helps the reader to feel the pain Charlie is going through on his left leg.
The imagery of sight
To help the reader visualize what is happening on the scene, Max uses the imagery of sight. He writes:
“While I was busy with this, my co-workers stared through two-inch polycarbonate security glass and beat on the door.”
Through this imagery, the reader is able to understand how the co-workers are looking at the Max Barry.
Imagery of smell
The author has used the imagery of smell to depict the intentions of journalists visiting Charlie in the hospital. Their goal is to smell around and inquire whether he will file a suit against the company.
"The last thing the company wanted was a journalist sniffing around, asking about our peculiar death and injury rate.”
Imagery of listening
Listening is an act of hearing and the author of this novel has used Charlie’s jokes to depict the sense of hearing to the reader.
" I make jokes. I can tell what’s wrong with your car just by listening to it.”
This imagery aids the reader to understand the capability of Charlie in telling the hidden secrets of people but refers to the car.
