presumptuous

A manner of behavior associated with taking liberties with one's familiarity wth someone such as assuming they are a close friend rather than a mere acquaintance, intrusions into privacy like showing up unannounced or borrowing items without permission.

flogged

A type of corporal punishment one routinely practiced aboard sailing ships, but currenty relegated only to more authoritarian regimes in which a person is publically beaten or whipped across the back or buttocks.

deprivation

A state of being marked by the singular absence of something vital.

truncheon

The short, hard wooden batons carried by law enforcement officers and used for subduing people by beating them with it.

infraction

The breaking of a law.

covert

Secret and hidden; clandestine; associated with espionage and illegal activity.

animosity

A profound and deep-seated state of hatred that is the result of a prolonged series of quarrelsome engagements.

myopic

Literally: near-sighted. Figurative: focusing so much on the details that one is unable to see the larger issues.

indignation

Righteous anger toward a violation of common decency.

exacerbate

To make a bad situation even worse.

diffusion

Dispersal over a large expanse of space or time.

surmount

To exceed, outperform, outmatch, overcome or subdue a difficulty.

hierarchy

An organiazation or cassification of people or groups in a ranking order in which the each one succeeding leve upward is endowed with greater authority or status than the ones below.

bureaucracy

The system of management and admistration within a hierarchy which ensures that all formal rules, regulations, procedure and paperwork are officially observed and implemented.

ordnance

Military weapons and their ammunition.

cartel

An official or unofficial cooperative arrangement between independent parties with the intent of promoting and protecting shared mutual interests.

protocol

Mandatory code of procedure recognized as essential behavior within an organization or situation.

napalm

Highly flammable gelatinous material for use in incendiary bombs and military-grade flamethrowers.

stoic

Capable of enduring hardship and intense emotional trauma impassively and with a fatalistic acceptance.

forestall

To prevent something before it happens by taking advance action.
