Moonlight (Film) Irony

Kevin's Promise (Dramatic Irony)

In the scene following Kevin and Chiron's tryst, the viewers see Terrel approach Kevin, asking him to beat up whoever Terrel chooses. Chiron, sitting on the opposite side of the cafeteria, remains unaware of what's in store for him; when Kevin approaches him, the film creates dramatic irony, since we know their interaction will be the opposite of what Chiron might expect, given the previous scene.

Chiron's TV (Situational Irony)

It is ironic that, although Paula prohibits Little from watching TV as punishment for failing to come home the previous night, she later sells that TV to pay for crack.

Chiron's Transformation Into Black (Situational Irony)

It is ironic that, although Juan tries to better Chiron's life by acting as role model, Chiron ends up living a similar lifestyle as Juan after he dies.

Juan's Business With Paula (Dramatic Irony)

Before Little finds out for himself, we learn that Juan sells crack to Little's mother, Paula. We learn this when Paula confronts Juan about the hypocrisy of his acting like Little's father figure.
