Objective:

Students will use Google Maps to explore areas presented in the novel, and will see if the environs are similar to the way they were in Gaskell’s time.

CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.11-12.7, CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RH.11-12.7

Structure:

Using individual computers, have students access Google Maps. Using the Street View function, allow them to explore the streets of towns and cities represented in North and South.

Milton is a fictionalized version of Manchester, so students should explore that area as representative of the North.
