Crake says, "God is a cluster of neurons." What do you think he meant? Do you agree?

Crake is talking about the scientific theory that there is a neurological explanation for spirituality. Specifically, there is a part of the brain that makes humans believe in a higher power, or a god. Crake believes that since he has eliminated this part in the Crakers, they will never develop religion.

Depending on the community in which you teach, it is possible this particular assertion will elicit passionate reactions from your students. Be sure to emphasize that this is the point of view of a fictional character, and not necessarily an assertion of truth on the part of author...
