Othello (1951 Film) Irony

Cassio

Desdemona asks Othello to meet with her and Cassio in order that he won't punish him. Ironically, she does not know that Iago has manipulated Othello to believe that she and Cassio are sleeping together, thus causing Othello to believe the lie.

Confession

Iago tells Cassio to confess everything to Desdemona in order that she will get Othello on his side. Ironically, Cassio knows not that Iago is telling him to do this in order to convince Othello that Desdemona is sleeping with Cassio.

Handkerchief

Cassio gives a handkerchief to his mistress. Ironically, he does not know that it is Desdemona's handkerchief and Iago has set him up with it in order to break Othello.

Most Loved

Othello tells Cassio that he is most loved by him. Ironically, Othello believes him not as Iago has poisoned his heart to believe that Cassio has done the greatest of betrayals by sleeping with Desdemona.

Captured

Iago has set in motion a plan that will cause the fall of Othello. Iago believes he will get away with it free of penalty. Ironically, he doesn't account for Emilia speaking out against him, an action which causes him to be captured and tortured for his crimes.
