What does Reverend Pulliam say about love, and why is it so offensive to Richard?

At K.D.and Arnette’s wedding, Reverend Pulliam is a guest preacher. He makes a pointed sermon about the nature of love (and one that is not entirely appropriate for a wedding, as it is very foreboding in tone). He tells the congregation that it must be tirelessly worked for, and even then, you may only hope to understand it.
