The paradox of the exploration
The Hail Mary mission to explore space is risky because it has never been attempted before. Ironically, the crew led by Eva Stratt is ready to take the risk because its primary intention is to put the lives of millions first. The mission is intended at saving the earth from extinction due to the attack in the solar system. Therefore, the crew on this mission travels to space to find a solution on planet earth that can be saved from extinction.
The refusal of Grace to take part in the mission
At first, when United Nations requests Grace to stop the end of the world, he gladly accepts. Ironically, when Grace learns that one of the crew members has died, he refuses to board Project Hail Mail set for space. However, Eva tactfully gives Ryland amnesia to sleep, forcing him into the cabin. Grace wakes up later to realize that he is alone in the cabin in space and the rest of the crew are dead. Therefore, Grace realizes that he has a mission to accomplish and then looks for a solution.
The satire of Rocky’s rescue mission
After Grace realizes that he is alone in his cabin, he sees another spaceship spinning the star. He is shocked to discover that there is only one survivor in that spaceship, and his name is Rocky. The two agree to accomplish their mission of saving their respective planets. After finding a solution, Rocky gives Grace enough fuel to return to earth. Ironically, Rocky does not know that his life is in danger because Taumoeba is killing him.
The Irony of the Eridian Planet
Upon realizing that Rocky’s life is in danger, Grace decides to fly back to Eridiam planet to save him. However, Grace knows that he cannot survive once he gets there, but he leaves anyway. Fortunately, he finds Rocky and saves him from danger. Satirically, Grace discovers that the Eridiam planet is habitable, and he decides to live there for the rest of his life.
