Red Queen Essay Questions

Essay Questions

  1. 1

Why was it dangerous that Mare had powers as well as being a Red?

The Silvers were above the Reds in Red Queen, and it was commonly accepted. They were the royalty, the rich and the powerful while the Silvers were their servants. This system was accepted because the Silvers had powers that made them somehow “more” and “better” than the Reds. Thus, when a Red has powers, that meant that the Silvers weren’t better than them. Therefore, a Red having powers was dangerous for the system the world was built on in the book.

  2. 2

How can the class system in Red Queen reflect in our world?

Similarly, to the world in the book, there has also been many segregations in the world; most noticeably in different races. Races in this world could be compared to the different “races” in Red Queen, where the races were not defined by the color of skin, but the color of blood instead. Poverty and downgrading of those below oneself is apparent in both cases. Mare figures out that the Red’s actions are wrong and seeks a way to change the world as she knows it.

  3. 3

Why did the Queen want her son to seduce Mare?

As is revealed at the end of the book, The Queen was planning on taking over the throne, killing her husband in order to get what she wanted. She also knew that if she wanted the Red’s either on her side, or to keep them under control, she would need Mare; a Red with powers. The Queen knew Mare was depraved of love, and to get in her good graces she could use her son. Her plan worked.
