Why does Amy make such a conscious effort to make friends?
Amy makes a conscious effort to make friends because she has a fear that she will never meet anyone that understands the situation she is in. She wishes that she will be loved and accepted for who she is, but doesn't understand how that will happen if no one actually knows who she is. Therefore, she tries her best to talk to people she wouldn't normally talk to, in hopes of finding a friend that might be in the same situation as her.

How does Matthew change Amy?
Matthew and Amy love each other, and they understand each other. However, Amy's life doesn't suddenly change when she meets Matthew. She still has the same normal problems she always had, yet it seems just a little bit easier, as she has a companion that is by her side, cheering on her, and that understands her.

Which effect does Amy have on Matthew?
Amy makes Matthew better, and this is one of the reasons he falls in love with her. Matthew has anxiety, yet he notices that he does a lot better and has a lot fewer attacks when he has Amy around, knowing that she is by his side. At the same time, he is able to control some of his OCD.
