Say What You Will Imagery

Amy in high school

Amy going into high school is an important imagery, as she is trying to be independent for the first time- or at least as independent as you can get while being dependent on machines and others to live a normal life. However, she tries just that - living a normal life - for she is just like other teenagers around her- she wishes to fit in and make everlasting friends. This happens to be remarkably difficult though, as she is so clearly different.

Amy trying to find new friends

A part of fitting in is having friends, and Amy does genuinely try her best making them. However, she cannot speak on her own, and no one has the patience to wait for her machine to speak for her. Therefore, her time making friend flop, and she if left feeling more alone than she was before she tried making friend. At least then, she had the hope that she could have friends if only she made an effort.

Amy and Matthew together

Amy and Matthew, together, as a family is an important image. It is an image that shows the change of an era of both their lives. Amy is finally able to have someone by her side, cheering her on in support, and Matthew got the girl he loved. Neither of them are alone, and they have someone that understands how it is to be different beside them.
