Jockey
A man that professionally rides horses in horse races. They generally adhere to strict height and weight standards, being small is beneficial.
Trainer
The person responsible for training the horses, and jockeys.
Derby
The Kentucky Derby. One of the races that a horse must win to be eligible to win the Triple Crown.
Preakness
Another one of the races that a horse must win to be eligible to win the Triple Crown.
Balmont
The Balmont Stakes. Another one of the races that a horse must win to be eligible to win the Triple Crown.
Triple Crown
The award given to horses (their jockeys, trainers, and owners) that win all three races: The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, and the Balmont Stakes.
Match Race
A highly anticipated race between two horses, although other horses may be entered. This match race was between War Admiral and Seabiscuit. Another famous match race was between Secretariat and Sham.
