Standing Courageously in the Face of Adversity Anonymous College

Martin Luther King stated the following: “One has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws” (King 259). Laws are meant to protect citizens and ensure order within society; however, when a law degrades human personality, the obligation to speak out arises since an unjust law only paves a road towards inequality. In his letter, King highlighted the importance of fulfilling one’s duty in defending justice with courage and perseverance. Similarly, he argued how imperative knowledge was when facing adversity due to the power in widening perspectives through exchanges in knowledge and dialogue. King’s arguments are seen as a foundation for powerful leadership skills often sought after not only in the present day, but also through other prominent figures in history. Because going against unjust laws captures a negative social image, this type of radical action can only be executed by courageous individuals who would choose justice—even at the price of their life.
