Approximately twenty slaves came to the Jamestown colony on an English ship called the White Lion commanded a man named John Jope. Although the actual date which enslaved Africans first come to America is still being widely debated, the historical consensus is that 1619 is the date in which they first came.

    How was Thomas Jefferson a hypocrite?

    Like many of the Founding Fathers of the U.S., Thomas Jefferson was a hypocrite because he advocated for the idea that "all men are created equal" (as he wrote in the Declaration of Independence) while simultaneously owning slaves - thus showing that not all men are actually created equal.
