Tristran Thorn
The main character of the novel, Tristran grows up not knowing the whole truth about his identity, that he is only half human. The other half of him is Faerie, from his real mother Una. Falling in love with the young Victoria, he promises to her to go beyond the Wall and retrieve the fallen star for her. Tristran is unaware that this journey will be the most important one of his life, and will make him grow in ways he couldn't have imagined.
Yvaine
Yvaine is the fallen star whom Tristran promised to bring to Victoria. Yvaine is also a living being, and despite the differences between them, Tristran and her fall in love, overcome the hardships and rule over Faerie world.
Victoria
Victoria is Tristran's initial love to whom he promises to bring the fallen star from the Faerie world. Victoria takes neither him nor his promises seriously, and instead falls in love with a boy called Monday.
Dunstan Thorn
Dunstan is Tristran father who in his youth had him with the enslaved Lady Una, one of the daughters of the Lord of Stormhold. He encourages Tristran in his quest beyond the Wall in hopes of him discovering the truth about his identity.
