Objective:

Students will be able to explore various mother-daughter relationships in the novel, as well as practice creative writing skills

Common Core Standards:

Structure:

Each mother-daughter relationship in Sula is unique, with its own sources of love and tension. Ask students to write a letter from any daughter in the novel to her mother; they may choose to write to Rochelle from Helene’s point of view, to Helene from Nel, to Hannah from Sula, or to Eva from Hannah.
