Chapter 1 - Precalculus Review - 1.2 Linear and Quadratic Functions - Exercises - Page 18: 12

Answer

y=-5x

Work Step by Step

When an equation is in slope-intercept form, or y=mx+b form, m=slope and b=y-intercept. The y-intercept is the y value at x=0. Since the line passes through the point (0,0), the line has a y-intercept of 0 because at x=0, y=0. Since the line has a slope of -5, we will plug -5 in for m in the equation y=mx+b. We will of course also plug in 0 for b. Therefore, y=-5x+0 y=-5x
