Since the measure of angle 1 and the measure of angle 2 add up to the measure of angle RSV, it follows: $$ x+y=67 $$ We are told that: $$ x-y=17 $$ So: $$ x=y+17$$ Thus, it follows: $$ 2y+17 =67 \\ 2y = 50 \\ y=25$$ From this, it follows: $$ x=y+17 \\ x=25+17 \\ x= 42$$
