To find the length of a segment on a number line, subtract the smaller point from the bigger point. Starting with LN, $L=-8$ and $N=3$. Subtracting the smaller one from the bigger one gives $3-(-8)=3+8=11$. For MQ, M=-3 and Q=12. Subtracting the smaller one from the bigger one gives $12-(-3)=12+3=15$ These segments are not congruent because they have different lengths.
